7 Valuable Pieces in Lionel Messi’s Watch Collection

By Annika Caniza - July 26, 2023
As a once-in-a-lifetime kind of footballer, Lionel Messi has a watch collection that reflects his timelessness, rarity, and personality.

A watch is not just a piece of metal you wear to tell the time. When you have the right watch, it can be a fashion statement, and this is something Lionel Messi proves. Whether he is simply sitting at a press conference providing answers to interview questions or walking into a stadium before a game, many people are always eyeing his wrists — or, rather, what he is wearing on his wrists. Sometimes, this topic garners even more attention than the games he’s prepping for.

On top of his football prowess, it’s become evident over the years that many people love to talk about Messi’s watch collection. Here are seven of his most valuable and unique pieces.

At the most recent Best FIFA Football Awards in Paris, Lionel Messi won the 2022 Best Men’s Player Award — a few months after winning the World Cup for Argentina. He was on a high from his string of victories and trophies, and he definitely looked the part of ‘Best Player,’ flashing his Platinum Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar.

This Patek Philippe Ref. 5270P Perpetual Calendar Chronograph came out just last year and is worth around $218,000.

When Lionel Messi flew to Paris to sign his contract with PSG in 2021, it was a huge deal. And to mark the occasion, he was spotted sporting a Rolex Yacht-Master 40, a classic and timeless piece — perfectly suited for one of the best football players around, whose talent goes beyond the club he represents. The watch retails for around $27,300, which was a fraction of Messi’s $80 million contract with PSG.

Messi, who likely has an entire drawer (or more) full of luxury watches, surely keeps room for this limited-edition watch, named after him: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Leo Messi Limited Edition Chronograph. The football legend himself had a hand in designing the timepiece before it was released as an exclusive piece in 2012.

This collection included three different varieties — 500 pieces were made in steel, 400 in pink gold, and just 100 in platinum. A very exclusive collection indeed, each piece sells for around $80,000.

Not only does Messi own classic luxury watches, but he also has some rare pieces in his collection, one of which is a Bat Bang Tourbillon 305.CM.002.RX he was spotted wearing while on vacation with his teammates. The all-black timepiece is worth around $150,000, though it is a difficult one to get your hands on.

For a player who has competed all over the world, it seems only right that Lionel Messi has the Jacob & Co. Grand Complication Epic SF24 Tourbillon, which many refer to as the ‘traveler’s watch,’ in his watch collection. One of the most unique features of this piece is its 45mm case that has a world-time display, indicating the city and date of location on the dial. Definitely a more flashy-looking watch, this is worth around $210,000.

The Patek Philippe Nautilus is another timeless piece in the Argentinian’s watch collection. Just before his 2022 World Cup match against Saudi Arabia, Messi showed up to an interview sporting this 18-karat white-gold Nautilus Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5740/1G, worth around $265,000.

One of the sportiest pieces in Lionel Messi’s watch collection is the Jacob & Co. Epic X Chrono Messi. And as you might deduce from the name, the star footballer had a hand in designing the watch, and his personal touches are all over the design.

The blue and white colorway of this watch represents Messi’s home country, Argentina. On top of this, Messi’s famous number 10 is also highlighted in red on the bezel. This is one timepiece that truly stands out in his collection, and it retails for around $58,000.
