Despite her knee injury, Alyssa Valdez has found a new way to stay connected with her sport: as a UAAP commentator!
A knee injury is life-changing for any athlete. Some athletes find themselves quitting but not Alyssa Valdez.
As the Philippines’ darling of volleyball, there’s no way she’s going to give up because of a knee injury. While recovering, Alyssa happily shares, “I’m home!” while reporting alongside court reporter Daniel B. Bautista during the volleyball match between the FEU Lady Tamaraws and the UST Growling Tigresses.
Alyssa Valdez: News on the injury
Alyssa Valdez became a household name on the Ateneo De Manila campus grounds, especially as a Lady Eagle. She has won a variety of awards from “Rookie of the Year” in UAAP Season 69 to “Most Valuable Player” in UAAP Seasons 70, 72, 76, and 77. She stayed in Ateneo for 5 years, due to a requirement as a transferee from UST to Ateneo.
Alyssa has also been updating her many concerned fans, family members, and teammates on the progress of her therapy for her knee injury. She posted on her Instagram 5 weeks ago, “Long way to go but slow progress is still progress.”
The nature of her knee injury was not disclosed but the team has released that she is undergoing a procedure for it.
Her injury came from a bad landing during Creamline’s square-off with Cherry Tigo.
When you love the sport, you find ways to return to it.
An injury may be career-changing, but it’s a test of passion, of how much one loves the sport. It’s clear that Alyssa Valdez loves volleyball, considering how she’s made herself into a household name for the sport. Although she’s benched for her injury, she and her team are confident that she will come back, stronger than ever.
