Hidilyn Diaz Vows to “Do Everything” For Another Olympic Gold

By Annika Caniza - March 07, 2023
After winning her fourth Philippine Sportswriters’ Association’s Athlete of the Year Award, Hidilyn Diaz has her eyes set on the Paris 2024 Olympics, vowing to do everything she can to win another gold medal.

Hidilyn Diaz has her sights on the near future of her career, and she made that clear at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night on March 6, 2023.

For the fourth time, the Olympic gold medalist won the PSA’s Athlete of the Year Award.

This comes off the heels of another historic year for Hidilyn Diaz, as in 2022, she won her first-ever Weightlifting World Championships gold medal. So not only is she an Olympic champ, she is a world champ too.

But even with such an iconic and significant career already, especially in terms of what she has achieved representing the Philippines, Diaz is after more.

Upon receiving the honor of Athlete of the Year, the Filipina made her intentions clear.

“It will be Olympics again next year,” she asserted. “I’ll do everything I can to bring home the gold medal.”

As she moves forward, she also said, “I hope that I’ll be able to return here next year for my fifth Athlete of the Year award. Manifesting for the Philippines.”

Indeed, Diaz does not seem done just yet. She has all the motivation to push for another medal, as though she has not already brought the country to one of its proudest moments. But to her, hard work is simply a passion and purpose.

“It is important that you love what you’re doing, know your purpose why you’re doing it, whether for yourself or for your family,” Hidilyn expressed.

With this, setting her sights on her third medal would simply add more gravitas to one of the Philippines’ best athletes in history. And her motivation certainly proves why she was celebrating her fourth PSA Athlete of the Year Award.
