American professional rally driver Ken Block passed away yesterday after suffering from injuries he sustained from a snowmobile accident.
While Ken Block was riding a snowmobile yesterday afternoon, the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office in the United States reported that the rally driver’s snowmobile upended on a steep slope and landed on top of him.
It was also reported that Block was riding with a group, but was alone when the accident took place. However, the State Medical Examiner’s Office is still set to determine the official cause of death.
Ken Block was an award-winning racer, having started his career in rally races in 2005. Since then, he has competed in the X Games, Rally America, the Global RallyCross Championship, the FIA World RallyCross Championship, and the World Rally Championship.
Throughout his career, he recorded 43 podium finishes and over 20 wins.
But apart from his racing career, however, he was described as a “daredevil.” He enjoyed extreme sports and even competed in skateboarding, snowboarding, and motocross competitions. On top of this, he was also a co-founder of the popular brand, DC Shoes.
He was more than just an athlete.
Ken Block was a personality, followed and beloved by many. He even tallied half a billion views on YouTube for his driving stunt videos.
But more important than his career, Block was also a family man. He is a husband to Lucy Block and a father to 16-year-old Lia Block, who is also now well-known for her budding racing career.
Ken Block’s Hoonigan Instagram account shared a post about the legend’s passing.
“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” the organization wrote. “Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”
