Manila is getting a new FIFA-preferred turf football field

Compared to basketball courts, football fields are few and far between. But soon, we’ll be getting a new world-class football facility.

We all know that basketball rules the Philippines. There are courts on every corner and games showing at every sports bar. But with the recent successes of our football teams (we’re still not over the Filipinas hype), the sport is slowly but surely digging its spikes into Filipino soil.

Robinsons Land is ready to keep up with football’s momentum in the country. Last July, they announced their plan to open a FIFA-preferred football field and sports lounge in Robinsons’ Bridgetowne Destination Estate.

World-class facilities

Many of the country’s football fields are located down South, in places like Alabang and Laguna where space is abundant. And as cramped as Metro Manila is, there is a limited number of football fields in other major cities.

Enter Robinsons Land. Their Bridgetown Destination Estate in Pasig City is opening a brand new football pitch. And with this opportunity, they are building it to the standards of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Bridgetown is right in between Quezon City and Pasig City. This makes for the perfect location for footballers all around the Metro.

Based on FIFA’s preferred standards, the space is to build a 105-meter by 65-meter football field. With this size, Filipino footballers can play on a field closely resembling those of their favorite professional teams.

In keeping with the standards, Bridgetowne is also building its field using high-quality turf. Given the intense heat and strong storms that frequent the country, the durability of turf will make the field strong enough to weather Metro Manila’s climate.

The field will also include other installations including bleachers, tower lights, locker and shower rooms, and offices. The building of these facilities is a collaboration between the Robinsons Integrated Development team and members of UP Diliman’s football team and alumni.

But apart from just the football facilities, Bridgetowne wants to dedicate their space to sports lifestyle—music to our ears.

Making sports a lifestyle

Right next to the football field, Bridgetown will also be building a sports lounge and entertainment venue. Here, fans and athletes alike can use this space to enjoy watching their favorite sports, games, and matches.

And to make it the perfect sports paradise, the space is expected to include a bar and restaurant, game halls, rehabilitation facilities, and a gym.

One of the managing partners and General Manager of Robinsons Integrated Developments, Miguel V. Gutierrez shared how excited he is about the coming space. “This facility will not only afford more access to but also expand awareness of the sport and hopefully, incite passion among enthusiasts,” he expressed.

Overall, the entire space is not just a place for football enthusiasts and players—it’s for anyone who loves sports. And we know how deeply intertwined sports are in our culture.

The Bridgetowne Football Field is set to open by 2023. While still a while away, its world-class facilities will be worth the wait. And, its opening may even be a perfect way to celebrate the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
