The Philippines has a number of great triathlon races in 2024. Here are the major ones to look out for.
Many Filipinos have gotten into triathlon as a form of fitness (or as a way to channel their competitive energy), but this also has a lot to do with the sport’s accessibility in the Philippines. There are many triathlons in the country every year, making it relatively simple for anyone to tick it off their bucket list, or better yet, to keep coming back for more.
2024 has a lot of great triathlon races in store for athletes in the Philippines. Here are the races to watch out for this year.
SuBIT
As the longest-running triathlon event in the Philippines, the Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) has become like a rite of passage for Filipino triathletes, especially given its accessibility for athletes of all experience levels — yes, even for the kids.
In 2024, the NTT AST SuBIT will be taking place on May 4 and 5 in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone with three race distances: the standard distance (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run), the sprint distance (750m, 20k, 5k), and the super sprint distance (500m, 10k, 2.5k).
On the same weekend, SuBIT will also be hosting their popular youth triathlon event, Super Trikids, offering race distances for kids as young as six years old up to 12 years old. You can turn it into a whole family affair!
NCC2CRK Triathlon
The New Clark City Triathlon is a great race for triathletes who are just getting started in their racing journey, with two different distances on offer — the TRI6290 (900m swim, 50k bike, 12k run) and the TRI3150 (500m, 25k, 6k) — as well as a relay option following the longer distance.
Taking place on April 7, 2024, just a few hours from Metro Manila, this is definitely one of the most accessible races this year that will also help boost your confidence as a triathlete.
5150
For triathletes who are working their way up to the long IRONMAN distances, 5150 is one step on the ladder. And in 2024, IRONMAN Philippines will be hosting three 5150 triathlon events throughout the year — on February 11 in Camarines Sur, July 14 in Bohol, and September 8 in Dapitan City. Take your pick.
As an Olympic distance race (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) that equals 51.50 kilometers, this is a great way to work your way up to a 70.3 IRONMAN.
IRONMAN 70.3
The IRONMAN 70.3 is one of the most highly-anticipated triathlon races in the Philippines and is definitely one of the most challenging. With a 1.9k swim, a 90k bike, and 21k run, training for this race will be a commitment, but luckily for Filipino triathletes, there are three events in 2024 to choose from.
The IRONMAN 70.3 will be held on three different dates and locations in the Philippines this year — on April 31 in Cebu, June 9 in Subic Bay, and August 11 in Davao.
IRONMAN Philippines
IRONMAN Philippines — the big kahuna. For long-distance racers and the triathlon-obsessed, this is the ultimate test of physicality and mental strength, as it will push you to finish a 3.9k swim, a 180k bike, and a 42k run. The average time of an IRONMAN finisher is around over 12 hours.
In 2024, this race will take place in Subic Bay on June 9. With a few months left to train, along with several shorter distances to help you work your way up there, will this be the year you check this off your bucket list?
