Filipino goalkeeper Neil Etheridge heroically protected Birmingham City’s win over Forest Green in the FA Cup with an incredible double save.
Birmingham City FC has Neil Etheridge to thank for their 2-1 win over Forest Green in the FA Cup earlier today after he made athletic back-to-back saves.
League One team Forest Green stunned the Championship League side in the first half of their most recent FA Cup match.
But straight into the second half, Lukas Jutkiewicz put Birmingham back in the game, and to put themselves in the lead, Kevin Long put a second goal back into the net.
However, Birmingham could have easily walked away with a draw, or even a loss, had Fil-Brit Neil Etheridge not made two crucial saves within the span of seconds.
Watch his heroics here:
With the double save, Birmingham went on to win the FA Cup match and advance to the fourth round — and it’s definitely great to see Etheridge killing it on the pitch.
In 2022, the 32-year-old keeper represented the Philippines and captained the team in the Azkals’ appearance in the Asian Cup qualifiers. But prior to this, Etheridge lost had lost his spot at Birmingham for a period of time and suffered from a hard-hitting case of COVID.
Now, on one of his first appearances back for the season, he’s certainly proving his value for the team.
