DepEd Boosts Sports Program with Fuel Tomorrow Academy

By The Game Team - November 25, 2025

The Department of Education is making sure that Filipino students stay hydrated and have easy access to sports.

The Department of Education (DepEd), in partnership with Gatorade, is set to launch the Fuel Tomorrow Academy, a nationwide initiative that supports DepEd’s school sports program by empowering Filipino students through proper hydration, movement, and access to sports.

More than a hydration campaign, the Fuel Tomorrow Academy is designed to strengthen student wellness and athletic performance in junior high schools across the country through three essential pillars: Fueling the Mind, Fueling the Body, and Fueling the Soul. This initiative reflects Gatorade’s deep commitment to youth development under PepsiCo Positive (pep+), the company’s global agenda for inclusive and purpose-driven growth through community partnerships.

A Three-Phase Approach to Empower Schools

Spanning five regions nationwide, the program’s implementation is anchored on three key phases.

The first phase is SCALE. Reaching over 6,650 schools, this phase promotes hydration and sports engagement by equipping educators, coaches, and students with practical tools to build lifelong healthy habits. Core materials include the Fuel Tomorrow Academy Playbook and the Fuel Up Move dance fitness routine—developed in partnership with the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics to encourage movement and teamwork among students.

The second phase is MOTIVATE. This phase strengthens grassroots sports by providing sports equipment to 500 schools across five regions, supporting the creation of school sports clubs and encouraging active, balanced lifestyles.

The third phase is ELEVATE. Through a nationwide school caravan that engages 91 schools, Gatorade and DepEd bring the Fuel Tomorrow Academy experience directly to students and teachers, combining education, fitness, and inspiration in one immersive event.

Championing the Next Generation of Filipino Athletes

“Initiatives like the Fuel Tomorrow Academy represent what Gatorade stands for—fueling potential,” said Aditya Sheoran, Regional General Manager for Beverages, PepsiCo (Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore). “Through this partnership with DepEd, we aim to champion the athletes of tomorrow—helping them grow stronger and build a generation that values health, teamwork, and perseverance.”

In support of this effort, Gatorade announced two complementary programs under the Fuel Tomorrow Academy.

The first is the Player of the Year Award will honor top-performing student-athletes who exemplify excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship.

The second is the launch of a new 237ml Gatorade bottle, formulated in compliance with DepEd’s Nutrition Guidelines for Beverages, aims to make proper hydration more accessible in schools.

“Earlier this year, we institutionalized School Sports Clubs to promote the holistic development of our learners and encourage active lifestyles,” said DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara. “With partners like Gatorade, we are taking this mission further—ensuring that our students remain healthy, active, and grounded in the values that sports promote: discipline, sportsmanship, and competitiveness.”

The partnership was formally launched under the leadership of DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, Gatorade Regional General Manager Aditya Sheoran, PepsiCo Philippines Marketing Director Nicole Villarojo, and Redscope Communications President Sarah Coe and Redscope TWG Chairperson Dr. Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial. The Fuel Tomorrow Academy marks a milestone in advancing DepEd’s vision for a strong, inclusive, and sustainable school sports ecosystem.
