By Annika Caniza - October 07, 2024

The Philippine Strength and Conditioning Convention is set to bring the world’s experts together to take your fitness journey forward.

One could argue that passion for sports and fitness is at an all-time high in the Philippines. After witnessing the country’s athletes’ historic performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics, as well as the growing number of fitness communities all around, it’s clear that an active lifestyle has become a huge priority among Filipinos.

This is what makes the Philippine Strength and Conditioning Convention, also known as StrengthCon, more timely than ever.

Fitness is an ever-evolving field. With new methods and research on health, strength, and conditioning consistently coming up, it feels almost impossible to keep up with all the latest trends in fitness. But, StrengthCon aims to bridge the gaps.

Last year, the first-ever Philippine Strength and Conditioning Convention took place in UP Diliman, where researchers, sports scientists, and fitness experts from all over the world came together to share their knowledge and expertise in the field with the hundreds of participants who attended.

This year, StrengthCon is coming back bigger and stronger.

The team behind this event, Chappy and Bituin Callanta, and sports scientist and strength coach Jeffrey Pagaduan, are bringing 14 experts together to speak about various topics relating to strength and conditioning, sports performance, physical therapy, nutrition, and sports medicine. With over 400 registered participants, this will be the biggest StrengthCon yet.

This two-day convention will take place on October 12 and 13 in the Frassati Auditorium of the University of Santo Tomas, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building in España, Manila. Here, participants will get the chance to listen to each of the speakers, meet local experts in the field, and enjoy the expo area where brands and organizations will be showcasing their products and services.

Here’s everything you need to know to get hyped for StrengthCon!

Learn from the world’s leading experts

A number of speakers from all around the world are attending the Philippine Strength and Conditioning Convention this year, which makes this event one of the country’s biggest opportunities to learn more about this important field.

This year’s keynote speakers include two highly experienced researchers in the field. The first is Greg Haff, who is a professor at Edith Cowan University, a UKSCA-accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach, and a National Level Weightlifting Coach in the US and Australia. He is also a prolific author and sports scientist who has published several books and over 150 publications about the field.

Haff will be joined at the convention by Dan Baker of the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA). Baker holds the esteemed titles of a Level 3 Strength and Conditioning Coach and a Master Coach of Strength and Conditioning, recognized by the ASCA.

With these two experts leading the field, they will surely bring a new level of expertise and wisdom to the local Strength and Conditioning community in the Philippines.

These experts will also be joined by Filipino experts. Daniel Buberis, a Filipino based in Australia with a Level 3 Elite Strength and Conditioning Coach status and Elite Mentor as recognized by the ASCA, will also be speaking at StrengthCon 2024. In addition, emerging Filipino coaches from Down Under will also be sharing their expertise, including Argell San Jose, head of human performance in OrthoSport Victoria, and Patricia Mae Matarlo, an occupational therapist and high-performance coach from Melbourne.

Of course, StrengthCon 2024 will also be headlined by the country’s very own top experts in the field of strength and conditioning, led by veteran coach and current NCAA president, Hercules Callanta, who has over 40 years of coaching and teaching experience. In addition, he will also be joined by Molly Mallari and Wisdom Valleser, two esteemed professors and local experts from the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics.

This is why the Philippine Sports Commission has partnered with StrengthCon as a major sponsor, which allows discounted rates for official national coaches and athletes. With these coaches leading the country’s future professional athletes and Olympians, StrengthCon aims to make the world’s leading research and latest trends in the field of strength and conditioning more accessible for them to help maximize the potential of our athletes. In addition, another major sponsor, Nickel Asia Corporation, will also be bringing students from the University of the Philippines’ College of Human Kinetics to help deepen their knowledge in this field.

As exciting as all of this already is, there is even more that the participants of StrengthCon 2024 will get to enjoy!

The 400-plus participants who signed up will also get the chance to sample and test out products and services of the brands that will have their own booths at the expo area of the event.
