Spanish La Liga powerhouse and one of the biggest football clubs in the world, F.C. Barcelona will be sporting a new look for this weekend’s match—and it’s one that may look familiar.
Spotify, as a huge sponsor for Barcelona, is featuring Grammy Award-winning artist Drake front and center on the team’s jerseys for their rivalry match against Real Madrid. In replacement of the audio streaming platform’s logo will be Drake’s iconic OVO logo.
A first for Barca, a first for Drake
Featuring Drake on F.C. Barcelona’s limited-edition kit was not a random choice by Spotify. It is actually a tribute to the artist, who recently hit 50 billion Spotify streams—the first artist to reach a milestone on the platform.
And to celebrate this achievement, Drake’s OVO logo will be placed front and center, atop the iconic Barca stripes.
OVO, which stands for October’s Very Own, is Drake’s fashion brand that he founded in 2008. Since then, it has also evolved into a record label called OVO Sound, which represents represent artists like Majid Jordan and DVSN. The owl you see on the limited-edition kit is his iconic logo.
In the past, OVO has also released collaborative collections with other sports teams as well. For instance, as a die-hard Toronto Raptors fan, Drake released a collab with the team this year.
Although not a collab with the fashion brand itself, the brand new Barcelona kit will still have the same iconic look with his logo more than easily identifiable.
“We were really excited to celebrate one of the biggest games of the year and mark Drake’s milestone as the first artist to reach 50 billion streams,” Spotify VP of Partnerships Marc Hazan shared to For the Record. “We’ve always said that we want this partnership to be a celebration of fans, players, and artists on a global stage—and there’s no bigger stage than El Clásico.”
So for anyone who is both a Barcelona fan and a Drake fan, rejoice. You can cheer for your team in the much-awaited El Clásico this weekend while also repping your favorite artist.
