Common Threads: 3 Fashion Trends We Spotted In The UAAP Tunnel

By Annika Caniza - November 14, 2023
As teams get closer to the championship, these UAAP men’s basketball players’ fashion choices are reflecting their focus on the court.

We’ve only got one more weekend of the elimination rounds of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament and it’s crunch time. The UP Fighting Maroons, NU Bulldogs, and DLSU Green Archers may have sealed their slots in the Final Four, but their last two games will determine who will gain the top two seeds for a significant twice-to-beat advantage. Meanwhile, it looks like the fight for the last slot in the next tournament round will go down to the wire as Ateneo, Adamson, and UE will all be chasing the same thing.

With the start of the Final Four round in sight, it’s safe to say the UAAP men’s basketball players now all have tunnel vision on the same goal: to win the chip. And somehow, it looks like this similarity in focus is translating into their outfit choices, too.

Last weekend, The GAME spotted three fashion trends among the UAAP men’s basketball players. With their eyes on the prize, it looks like bolder fashion choices are making a return to timeless basics.

Black on black

The most common fashion trend we spotted in the UAAP men’s basketball tunnel was a black-on-black motif. At least one player on every team came onto the playing field with a very focused look.

Back to basics

Throughout last weekend, we also noticed a big shift back to more basic pieces — trusty white tees, plain-colored tops, and loosely fitted bottoms. Very Devin Booker-esque.

Trusty totes

We’ve been noticing this particular fashion trend since the beginning of UAAP Season 86 — the use of good old reliable tote bags. When players are coming in with their game-day essentials, it doesn’t get much easier than tossing them all in one bag and calling it a day.
