Months after their recent NBA championship win, the Warriors took a trip to the White House to celebrate with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
After the Golden State Warriors won the NBA championship in 2015, the team took a trip to the White House to celebrate their victory.
The Warriors have won a total of four championships since then. However, they are only now returning to the White House again, for the first time since February 4, 2016, to celebrate their most recent title.
Last season, the Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in a six-game championship series. From this, a few months after the team received their rings, they took a trip back to the White House to celebrate with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“The Golden State Warriors are always welcome in this White House,” President Biden said.
Dub Nation in the House
Although the White House was hosting the championship-winning team, the Warriors made sure that they did not show up empty-handed.
“We brought some gifts for you,” star player Steph Curry said to Biden and Harris. “We have two jerseys. A No. 46 and a No. 49 that we would love to have you part of Dub Nation forever and maybe find it on the wall of the Oval Office.”
Behind the curtain, this must have been a true moment of happiness for Vice President Harris. She was born in Oakland, and before her role as VP of the United States, she held several positions in the Bay Area.
As such, she is a true Warriors fan.
“As a very proud daughter of Oakland, it gives me immense personal pride as the Vice President of the United States to say, ‘Dub Nation is in the house,'” Harris excitedly declared on the podium.
President Biden also had his turn commending the Warriors on their championship win.
“The last couple of years were pretty tough. Critics wondered if this team was gone for good as a championship team,” Biden said.
“Fellas, I know what it feels like,” he remarked, drawing laughter from the crowd. As a political figure, President Biden has also been through the mill of doubters himself.
A Warriors White House Briefing
While at the White House, Steph Curry and head coach Steve Kerr also took a stop into the White House briefing room.
With this, Curry used the opportunity to thank Biden’s administration for their efforts to bring Brittney Griner — the women’s basketball player who was imprisoned in Russia on drug charges — back home.
“It means a lot to know that she’s here and home safe with her family,” Curry said.
“We learned a lot about what this administration is doing to help create a safer environment in our country,” Kerr added.
In all, it was certainly a successful trip to the White House. As a championship-winning team, bringing pride to their city and to their country, it was fitting to see the leaders of the country celebrating alongside the Golden State Warriors.
“We want to say again thank you for letting us be here to celebrate and for our family, our staff, everybody here on the stage, it means the world and hopefully, this isn’t the last time. So thank you,” Curry expressed.
Now, the Warriors will definitely be hoping to take some of the positive energy from their White House trip to the second half of the NBA season, so that they may be back here again in a year’s time.
