As the 2024 NBA Playoffs continue, we’ve noticed a fair amount of fashion trends in the tunnels that you can apply to your own style game.
Over the years, it’s been known that NBA tunnels have been a go-to source for fashion trends and inspirations. Just think back to Dennis Rodman and Allen Iverson in the past, or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook in recent years.
Things aren’t too different for the 2024 NBA Playoffs, with arena tunnels remaining as the space for many different fashion trends. Midway into this year’s postseason, the NBA’s best continue to pull off their best looks that most of us might want to replicate in the future.
Here are four fashion trends we’ve picked up and are loving so far in this year’s postseason. Who knows? You might even pick up a lesson or two from how these elite-level basketball players dress.
Monochromes never miss
Throughout the postseason, we’ve noticed that some of our favorite hoopers love to go for monochrome outfits, or looks that rely on a single color, whether it’s all-black, all-blue, or any color you might think of.
Most looks under this fashion trend always end up being cohesive and well put together without requiring too much effort, which is probably the main reason why monochrome always works. Just look at Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Michael Porter Jr., and Rui Hachimura.
Muted tones
Another 2024 NBA Playoffs style trend we’ve been noticing this year are muted palettes, or desaturated and dulled versions of conventional colors. These tones are softer in appearance and are less straining to look at.
When applied in fashion, muted tones result in effortlessly chic and sophisticated looks, especially now wherein “quiet luxury” has become a trend. After all, authenticity is achieved when you’re not trying too hard to prove yourself.
Textured garments = instant style statements
As previously seen with Russell Westbrook, textured clothing can instantly elevate even the most simple outfits when done right. Besides Russ, we’ve also spotted other players going for textured pieces, whether it’s through their outerwear or main top.
If anything, those textured pieces have been statement pieces in their look, which is something we might want to consider when wanting to elevate our own looks. I mean, there’s Isaiah Hartenstein, Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram, and Royce O’Neale to name a few you can refer to.
A timeless classic in suits
Last but not least is the abundance of suits in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, with some of our favorite players opting for a semi-formal look ahead of their postseason games. In some instances, they have also placed their own twist on the aesthetic, like CJ McCollum’s hat, or Kristaps Porzingis rolling up his sleeves for a more relaxed take.
The biggest lesson here? You can never go wrong with trying to be a contemporary gentleman.
