The legendary Jungler is enjoying his time in the biggest esports event in the world.
The EWC is in full swing and Liquid ECHO’s Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno looks like he’s living in the moment. As the MPL PH S13 champions, Liquid ECHO are entering the Mid Season Cup 2024 as heavy favorites. Add to that the fact that the most recent MLBB update brought back assassin heroes into the meta and KarlTzy is having the time of his life right now.
First, he’ll need to get used to playing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. KarlTzy says that one of the biggest challenges that he and his team face is getting used to the climate. “Wala naman akong problema sa pagkain. Pero kung lumabas ka sa tanghali, sobrang init sa labas na parang masusunog yung balat mo. Lagi na lang akong nagsu-sunscreen at naka long sleeve.”
Playing with the Best in the World
Still, KarlTzy is confident about Liquid ECHO’s chances of taking MSC 2024 even though it’s grown much bigger thanks to the EWC. With a million-dollar grand prize and a bigger international presence, the stakes are much higher compared to last year. That hasn’t phased the Filipino legend, however, and may have done the opposite instead.
“Wala naman extra pressure. Mas-natutuwa nga ako kasi yung mga idol ko sa ibang games nandito din!” He’s referring to the other esports who are also running their own events in the EWC. League of Legends and Dota 2 currently have their own tournaments running concurrent with MSC 2024 and there’s a high chance for pro players from different games to run into each other. Just like how KarlTzy managed to take a quick photo with Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, the League of Legends GOAT himself.
There’s also the overwhelming support of the Team Liquid staff that’s helping KarlTzy and the team settle in. He points to the heads of Team Liquid who seem to whole-heartedly trust that they can win MSC 2024. “Lagi [sila] nagmo-motivate sa amin. Sabi [nila] na nagawa na namin to sa MPL, so let’s just win again.”
