Mamba Moments: NBA 2K24 Celebrates The Legacy Of Kobe Bryant

NBA 2K24 is commemorating the legacy of Kobe Bryant, giving fans a way to relive some of his best moments through the game.

For the last 25 years, it has become an annual tradition for NBA fans to wait in anticipation for the latest edition of the iconic game, NBA 2K. And while every year, the game makers always give the fans something new and exciting to look forward to, NBA 2K24 will be even more special

As the 25th anniversary of NBA 2K, it was revealed earlier today that 18-time All-Star, five-time NBA Champion, two-time Finals MVP, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, the all-time leading scorer for the Los Angeles Lakers, and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, Kobe Bryant will be featured as the NBA 2K24 Kobe Bryant Edition and Black Mamba Edition cover athlete.

“As we celebrate 25 years of NBA 2K with Kobe Bryant, we commemorate his legacy and the generational impact he has had on the game of basketball,” said Greg Thomas, President at Visual Concepts.

With Kobe on the cover, you can expect to put his legacy into action through the game and commemorate his impact on the sport yourself.

Kobe Bryant had an illustrious basketball career, spending 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers and winning five NBA championships with the team, among his many more notable achievements as an athlete. But apart from the accolades he accumulated in two decades, fans loved him for something more — his intangible dedication to his craft, the ‘Mamba Mentality,’ and how it shaped an entire generation of players.

Even after his retirement from the league in 2016 and sudden passing in 2020, those 20 years he spent chasing glory have been remembered and immortalized in many ways. Now, NBA 2K24 is giving fans a new way to relive his legacy.

To celebrate the return of Kobe on the game’s cover, players will be able to channel their inner-Mamba mentality through the brand-new Mamba Moments mode. With this exclusive feature, 2K is allowing fans to recreate some of Kobe’s most memorable performances and progress through his transcendent journey from a young phenom to one of the greatest players of all time.

And to truly commemorate the many captivating performances Kobe left on the court, 2K24 is introducing ProPLAY — groundbreaking technology that directly translates NBA footage into NBA 2K24 gameplay.

With these new features, fans are definitely in for a brand-new playing experience laced with meaning. Not only will longtime NBA fans get to relive some of the best moments of one of the game’s best players through a new lens, but newer fans of the sport will also get the opportunity to discover how Kobe’s legacy grew into what it is today.

To mark the 25th anniversary of 2K, fans will get to choose from three different versions of the game: the Kobe Bryant Edition, a legendary Black Mamba Edition, and an all-new exclusive 25th Anniversary Edition.

To further solidify their commitment to celebrating Kobe’s legacy, these three editions of 2K24 are not just different covers of the exact same game — each edition will give players access to different features, such as exclusive Kobe Bryant Cards, Promo Packs, and MyTEAM and MyCAREER content, among others.

NBA 2K24 will release worldwide on September 8 on all platforms and feature crossplay compatibility for PlayStation® 5 (PS5®) and Xbox Series X|S. But until then, all editions are now available for pre-order!
