Philippines Ice Hockey Team Sweeps World Championships Div IV for Gold

The Philippines’ Ice Hockey team went unbeaten in the World Championships Division IV, skating all the way to a gold medal victory.

The Philippines’ Ice Hockey Team swept the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships Division IV, as they went on an unbeaten run all the way to a gold-medal finish in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

In the Philippine team’s championship game against Kuwait on Sunday, March 26, the Filipinos capped off their performance with a statement 14-0 win — a reflection of their dominant run all tournament.

In the first two periods of the match, the Philippines had already built a tough lead to follow, scoring five goals. Kenwrick Sze opened the scoreline for the team, Carl Montano netted back-to-back goals, and Mikel Miller and Jorell Crisostomo sealed off the second period with two more.

However, the team was far from finished.

In the third period, the Philippines took every opportunity to score, with six more players adding to the team’s lead. Keeping their defenses tight, Kuwait was unable to respond. Thus, the Filipinos skated off to a 14-0 win.

The Philippines’ Ice Hockey Team finished the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships Division IV with eight points, scored a total of 35 goals, and only conceded six goals all tournament.

With their championship win, the Philippines will not only be taking home the gold medal, but they have also been promoted from Division IV to Division III-B for next year’s World Championships.
