Courtside Royalty: Celtics Welcome Prince and Princess of Wales to Boston

By Annika Caniza - December 01, 2022
The Boston Celtics put on a perfect show for Prince William and Princess Catherine with a win over the Miami Heat.

Jayson Tatum popped off today in the Boston Celtics’ game against the Miami Heat, scoring 49 points to lead the team to a 134-121 win.

Perhaps he was trying to impress the V-VIPs sitting at courtside in TD Garden.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, are on a three-day trip to Boston. In the city, they will be visiting local organizations and non-profits and hosting the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony during their short stay.

Of course, they couldn’t go without catching one of Boston’s best tourist attractions: the Celtics.

Touch of Royalty

Prince William and Princess Catherine’s trip aligned perfectly with an exciting game between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat—a rematch of last season’s Eastern Conference Finals.

The Royal couple arrived at TD Garden just a few minutes before the game, where they sat next to Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

But even before the match, it seemed the couple was excited to watch the team with the best record in the NBA, as they posted on their Twitter account before they arrived.

And rooting for Boston, they surely got their seats’ worth.

The Jays (Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown) led the team again tonight, scoring 49 and 26 points, respectively. Plus, they got to witness Tatum becoming the first player in NBA History to record multiple games of 45+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 8+ threes.

We would say that the Royals brought a touch of luck to TD Garden to bring them to a win, but it’s not like their current 18-4 record needed it.

As the Prince and Princess’ first trip back to the United States since 2014, the Celtics definitely welcomed them back with a bang.
