In their first game in the fifth window of the World Cup Qualifiers, Gilas Pilipinas prevailed over Jordan, taking the win with a score of 74-66.
Competing on Jordan’s home court, it was Bobby Ray Parks who led the charge in the first half of the game. He led the scoring with 11 points, two rebounds, and one assist. In addition, Jamie Malonzo also contributed to helping Gilas end the second quarter in the lead, 41-37.
The second half saw a close battle between both teams. But for the Philippines, it was Scottie Thompson who proved to be the key figure for Gilas in the third and fourth quarters. He tallied eight points, 13 rebounds, eight assists, and one steal in the span of 27 minutes and 54 seconds.
Kai Sotto and Ray Parks also scored today in double digits, tallying 16 and 13 points, respectively. Additionally, Sotto contributed seven rebounds and two assists for the team.
With this, it was the Philippine side that emerged victorious, ending the game with an eight-point lead.
Coming into this match, both the Philippines and Jordan had a win-loss record of 3-3. The Gilas’ win now improves the country’s record to 4-3, above Jordan in the group standings. In addition, the victory also marks the Philippines’ fourth win in their last five matches.
Gilas Pilipinas will be competing again on November 13 (November 14, 12:00 AM, Manila time) against Saudi Arabia.
With a victory against Jordan, along with their previous win against Saudi Arabia in the fourth window, the Philippines will be heading into their next match with a boost of confidence.
