Kevin Quiambao Takes the Next Step in Pursuing His NBA Dream

By RJ Ballecer - June 05, 2025

After his first year in the KBL, Kevin Quiambao is set to take a major step in turning his NBA dream into a reality.

With his debut season in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) over, Kevin Quiambao is now shifting his focus to fulfilling his dream of playing in the NBA.

Amid his offseason from the KBL with the Goyang Sono Skygunners, the star forward is set to fly to the United States by the second week of June and attend a personal training camp in his attempt to become the first full-blooded Filipino player in the NBA.

Quiambao shared the development on Wednesday, June 4, during the pre-launch party of his adidas player exclusive with local designer Juanito “Quiccs” Maiquez at the Clubhouse in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

“I’m flying out next week for USA, so hopefully training muna,” Quiambao told reporters. “Ako lang magisa pupunta doon, so hopefully good things will happen.”

The do-it-all forward remained mum on further details, but is nonetheless excited for the lessons he will pick up from his training camp.

“Super [positive], kasi all for me naman eh. Nothing to lose ako, so yeah, if ever wala ako makuhang opportunity, babalik ako sa Korea,” Quiambao shared. “No one knows [what could happen], hindi ko alam kung anong future ang nakahanda sa akin. Basta ako, right now, I’m working as hard as I can.”

Kevin Quiambao showed signs of his potential as a rookie in the Korean Basketball League with Goyang Sono.

Should Kevin Quiambao return to Goyang Sono, he is now expected to become one of their main gunners for the 2025-26 season, having shown flashes of his brilliance despite suffering an early-season ankle injury in his debut year.

In 23 games played, Quiambao averaged a solid 16.9 points on 40.7 percent shooting, to go along with 6.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Skygunners. Thanks to his strong showing, Goyang Sono also signed the former UAAP MVP to a three-year contract over the offseason.

Bitin, bitin! 23 games ‘yung nilaro ko, and I’m very very excited na may full offseason ako,” Quiambao, with Goyang Sono finishing in eighth with a 19-35 record in his first year.

While his overseas hoops dreams are now in full swing, Kevin Quiambao also assured that he will always be ready for a Gilas Pilipinas call-up, starting with the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup this August, and the 2027 World Cup qualifiers by November.

“Always, always! Never ko ipagpapalit ‘yung Gilas para sa kahit anong team. So yeah, I’m very, very thankful na may opportunity ako to play for Gilas everytime.”
