The fight for the MPL championship is the closest it’s ever been.
The MPL PH S14 playoffs are about to begin and with how wild the standings of the regular season have been, it’s anyone’s guess on who’ll become the champion. While Falcons AP.Bren are the reigning world champions, they have looked far from invincible. Even Fnatic ONIC PH, who almost completed the perfect season, aren’t guaranteed an easy road into the grand finals.
Of the six teams in the playoffs, we have our eyes on three that have the potential to go far.
Omega Esports
The Barangay has returned stronger than ever this season. After failing for the first time to qualify for playoffs last season, Omega has bounced back looking better than ever. They’re the ones who snapped Fnatic ONIC’s win streak and they’re ready to prove that it wasn’t a fluke.
The biggest obstacle that Omega faces now is its consistency. Truthfully, they could’ve been top two in the standings if it wasn’t for some uncharacteristic losses in the regular season. It’s going to be up to veteran and team captain Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog to keep his team in check as they fight in the MPL PH S14 playoffs.
Team Liquid PH
As last season’s defending champions, this was not the spot Team Liquid wanted to be in. Their fifth-place finish put them into the play-ins, where they have a chance of getting knocked out before the playoffs really start.
While the team has struggled throughout the regular season, they’re still a world championship-caliber team. They are known to really kick it in gear during the playoffs, so no team should be underestimating them.
Fnatic ONIC PH
With their record-breaking 13-1 record, it’s easy to see why all eyes are on Fnatic ONIC this MPL PH S14 playoffs. It took some time but the ‘super team’ is finally living up to the name. Not only are they looking unstoppable in-game but their team synergy is looking unshakable. Now the real question is if they can maintain it.
Fnatic ONIC has not had a good record of playoff runs in previous seasons. Usually, they would exit in the first round but obviously, things are different now. And last season they had a similar meteoric start but couldn’t keep it up as the season went on. Will this finally be the season where they take a championship? We’ll have to wait and see.
