From seasons of grinding away in RSG and Bigetron, the star Roamer never expected this kind of success.
It’s been nothing but W’s for Aurora’s Light as the most dominant team in the MPL PH finished the regular season with a 13-match winning streak. This ties with ONIC PH’s winning streak back in season 14, although ONIC’s one loss came at the end of the season rather than the start.
Roamer Dylan “Light” Catipon admits that he never expected the team to be this successful back at season’s start. When asked how they were able to gel so well to reach this level of dominance, he could only shrug.
“Hindi ko rin alam, hindi ko talaga maipaliwanag,” said Aurora’s Light. “Siguro blessed lang talaga kami. Lagi kami ginagabayan ni Lord sa lahat ng pinagdadaanan namin.”
However, Light also doesn’t want to gloss over the real struggles that the team faced before and throughout the season. There was a lot of uncertainty around Aurora back when he first joined. Despite the results people see, it was not guaranteed, and getting there was not easy.
Sink or Swim
“Yung schedule namin naging madugo din nung una,” reflects Aurora’s Light. They did, in fact, face the top three of season 15 in their first two weeks, and the fact that they walked away from that with their first and only loss of the season is remarkable. And in a roundabout way, Light might have found the reason why they became the strongest team in season 16.
“It turns out nakatulong pala yun sa amin kasi tuloy-tuloy lang yung pressure kasi lahat ng top teams nakalaban namin. Parang make-or-break para sa amin yun. Kung malulusutan namin yung schedule, aangat kami ng sobra pero kung hindi lulubog kami ng sobra. So nagkataon na overcome namin yung challenge and everything went right pagkatapos ng week na yon.”
And now with this success behind him and playoffs to look forward to, Light only has one thing to say: “Excited para makapaglaro sa malaking venue, and excited maka-champion.”
A surprisingly bold claim from the often humble Light. But he laughs it off now that his brief moment of overconfidence has passed.
“Gagawin ko yung best ko, syempre. Yun lang mapro-promise ko.”
