Bali Major Week One: SEA Is Out While Europe Continues To Dominate

By Ramon Domingo - July 04, 2023
Two tiebreaker losses mean double the heartbreak for Southeast Asian fans.

Southeast Asia faces bad news as week one of the Bali Major has concluded.

West and East Europe continue to prove that they are the best region right now, as all their teams will be moving on to the playoffs. In particular, Team Liquid is looking to make a statement as they come out of the group stage with an impressive 12-4 record to top Group A.

Meanwhile, all three of the Southeast Asian teams failed to qualify, with Filipino teams Blacklist International and Bleed Esports falling right before the cut-off.

Both teams played and lost their best-of-three tiebreakers to determine who will move on to the next stage. It’s particularly painful for Blacklist, as they were coming off of a historical record comeback from an earlier match on the same day.

This means that Blacklist, Bleed, and Execration are out of the running for the 12 direct qualifications to The International. Joining them from this Major are North America’s nouns and China’s Invictus Gaming. Fortunately for SEA, Talon Esports has already earned its direct qualification. The rest will have to place their hopes in their regional qualifiers taking place later this year.

The playoffs start this Wednesday. Don’t want to miss the conclusion of the Bali Major? Check out their official Youtube and Twitch channels.
