Can Team Secret Reverse Their Fortune at the VCT Pacific Playoffs?

By Ramon Domingo - May 02, 2024
This could be the team’s chance to return to the international stage since LOCK//IN Sao Paulo early last year.

It’s do-or-die for Team Secret as they head into the VCT Pacific 2024 playoffs. The all-Pinoy squad has had a rough start in the Valorant Champions Tour, but this is their chance to right that ship.

Ever since the departure of Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan, the team has been trying to find their footing in 2024. Despite their promising start by winning the Asia Pacific Predator League 2024, the team has struggled against fiercer international competition.

During the VCT Pacific 2024 Kickoff tournament, Team Secret failed to qualify for Masters Madrid after dropping crucial matches against Talon Esports and Gen.G Esports. While the latter is arguably the best team in the Pacific, Talon should’ve been an even match for Team Secret. Instead, they were blown out 2-0 by Talon and put the strength of the team into question.

Fast-forward to stage 1 of the VCT Pacific 2024 regular season and things didn’t look better for Team Secret. They lost both their matches in the first week against DRX and Rex Regum Qeon, casting a grim outlook for the team’s chances to even make the playoffs.

Then, Team Secret suddenly found their stride and went on a three-game winning streak. Most impressive of all was that they beat Valorant Champions 2023 runner-ups Paper Rex in a convincing yet nail-biting 2-0. Their hot streak was doused by Talon during the last week but by then Team Secret had already secured their VCT playoffs spot.

Now comes the real test for the adobo gang. They need to make it at least to the lower bracket finals if they want a trip to Masters Shanghai. First, they’ll need to best T1, another winnable match-up but ‘winnable match-ups’ have been the team’s bane for some time.
