Get Ready—The Stage Is Set for Worlds 2024

By Ramon Domingo - September 30, 2024

Play-ins are done and now it’s  up to the remaining 16 teams to see who comes out on top.

Worlds 2024, the biggest League of Legends tournament of the year, is here once again and is now ready to run full steam ahead. With play-ins concluded, 16 of the best teams in the world will gather in Berlin, Germany, starting October 3 to fight for the Summoner’s Cup.

The format for this year’s Worlds is similar to last year. Eight teams get a shot to enter the mainstage through the play-ins. The four teams that make it out of that double elimination bracket move one to the Swiss stage. Similar to last year, each of the remaining 16 teams will be randomly paired off to play a best-of-one match.

Teams will then be paired off again based on the results of their previous match. This will keep going until we get the first eight teams to reach three wins to move on to the knockout stage. From here it’s just a single elimination, best-of-five bracket to see will become the Worlds 2024 champion.

Things were already heating up in the play-ins as for the first time in the history of Worlds, North America’s third seed failed to make it out. 100 Thieves made a valiant effort but the young squad just couldn’t come together under the pressure of Worlds.

Meanwhile, Brazil and Latin America played their hearts out as paiN Gaming and Rainbow7 fought for the last spot. It was a roller coaster of emotions on both sides but in the end Brazil stood triumphant as they took it 2-1 in what was one of the wildest series in Worlds 2024 yet.

Now the stakes have never been higher as every match from this point forward matters. There can be no room for mistakes as teams will put it all on the line for the championship later this week.
