It was a long road but the Empresses can now rightfully claim their thrones.
Fully living up to their name, the Philippines’ very own Smart Omega Empress are crowned as the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI) 2024 champions. This comes after a stunning 3-0 victory against Indonesian rivals, Team Vitality.
Omega Empress has distinguished themselves as the best MLBB women’s team in the Philippines time and again since their establishment. Its team members have remained relatively consistent throughout the years and they’ve been a part of all three MWI’s. They even represented our country in the women’s division of MLBB esports in the 32nd SEA Games. The team earned a silver medal finish there after a narrow defeat against Indonesia who were also represented by Team Vitality, then known as Bigatron Era.
Indeed, Indonesia has been something of a foil to the Empresses when it comes to international tournaments. Last MWI they were denied grand finals by GPX Basreng, who were widely seen as the second-best Indonesian team.
Now, after a year of refining and training their technique, Omega Empress finally get their victory over Indonesia to become the MWI 2024 champions.
The 3-0 finish was even more shocking considering that Team Vitality were entering MWI with a 20-tournament winning streak. Vitality were the heavy favorites and while their initial performance was quite shaky, many were sure that they’d be champions.
At the very least, people were expecting another full five-game series from the two rivals but the Empresses made short work of the Indonesians, showing that the gap between the regions is much closer than people thought.
For becoming the MWI 2024 champions, Omega Empress also takes home $180,000. As the grand finals MVP, Gold Laner Sheen “Shinoa” Perez takes home an additional $50,000.
