Soon we’ll find out which team gets the honor of raising the Aegis of Champions.
It’s that time of the year once again as the best Dota 2 teams in the world gather in Copenhagen, Denmark, to clash at The International 2024. Starting September 4, 16 teams will battle it out to see who will be crowned as world champions.
The 13th annual edition of the storied Dota 2 tournament comes with changes that are both familiar and new. Of the 16 teams, six were directly invited based on their performance throughout the year, a process that hasn’t been around since 2017. The rest proved that they deserve their spot by entering through their respective regional qualifiers.
Teams will still be divided into four groups of four teams for the group stage and will still be a best-of-two but with one key difference. In The International 2024, no teams will be eliminated in the group stage – instead they’ll be fighting for seeding. The top two in each group will fight against the third or fourth placers in their opposite group. Then the teams will go through another eight head-to-head best-of-three matches to determine their placement in playoffs.
Playoffs remain the same. A full double elimination bracket with best-of-three all the way until the grand finals best-of-five. The top eight teams that did well in their seeding matches start in the upper bracket while the other half are already in danger at the lower bracket. And once dust has settled, we’ll have ourselves The International 2024 champions.
