It’s the second half of the competitive year, so it’s time for teams to put up or shut up.
The MPL PH S16 is nearly upon us, and teams will once again be fighting for their dreams of a trophy and a spot in the M-series World Championship.
For some, it’s going to be a difficult and intense fight for the top. For others, it’s more about showing that they’re not to be underestimated. Regardless, every team has something to prove, and we’ve got a list of what to expect from them right here.
AP.Bren – We’re No Pushovers

MPL PH S16 is going to be a season of redemption for The Bees. Last season wasn’t pretty for them as the young MDL champions were hit by the hard reality of the level of competition in the MPL.
Jonathan “Jamespangks” Mendoza and Jan Carl “Shizou” Valdez remain in the starting five, and they’re for sure hungry for payback. With the return of Arvie “Aqua” Antonio in the Mid Lane, AP.Bren are raring to show that they can hang with the rest of the legends in the league
Aurora Gaming – Keep The Light Burning

Aurora’s been a fan favourite ever since they joined the league with players that can live up to the hype. Unfortunately, that’s been their curse as they shine bright during the regular season only to burn out towards the end.
They’re going for a different approach in MPL PH S16, although that’s mostly because circumstances forced their hand. Renejay Barcase was a critical departure from the team, and now they have to rebuild their identity with Dylan “Light” Catipon stepping in. Will they be able to shine again this season?
Omega Esports – Rise Up

Omega might be in recovery mode after what happened to them last season. The team struggled to get anything going and, as a result, suffered an eight-place finish — their worst performance since entering the league.
But as the saying goes, “when you hit rock bottom, the only way left is up.” Maybe the return of Salic “Hadji” Imam to his original will be enough to give Omega the boost they need to become top contenders once again.
ONIC Philippines – World Champion Caliber

It’s been a bit of a rocky road for ONIC Philippines ever since they became the M6 World Champions. Their initial bouts of success were followed by numerous difficulties and close calls. By all accounts, they’re still one of the strongest MLBB teams in the world, but are they still on that world champion level?
With no major changes to their lineup for MPL PH S16, it’s completely up to ONIC to show that they’re capable of defending their title. Other teams have moved ahead of them; can the M6 champs do the same?
Team Falcons PH – Soaring Higher Than Before

Speaking of championship-caliber teams, there’s no doubt that Team Falcons is still part of that argument. But with the level of competition within the MPL, the Falcons have unfortunately been stuck in third place for two seasons in a row.
That’s simply not good enough for a squad that’s brought home international trophies and gold medals. With the starting five staying together for their third year in a row, Team Falcons are going to have to dig deep to reach their lofty expectations.
Team Liquid PH – The Unstoppable Tide

If there was ever a clear team to beat in MPL PH S16, it’s the reigning MSC 2025 champions. But if we’re being honest, it’s hard to see Team Liquid falling to anyone in their current form.
A lot can still happen in the course of the season, so there’s no guarantee, especially in a league like the MPL. However, the hopes of a possible golden road are alive and burning in everyone’s hearts. Team Liquid are not letting themselves get distracted by it, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if this was the team to achieve it.
TNC Pro Team – Keep The Momentum

TNC were able to do the unthinkable last season — they finally climbed out of last place. Jokes aside, TNC really did impress in season 15, and hopefully they can keep that up in MPL PH S16.
The departure of Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera has left the spot open for Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog to take the field. What kind of impact will this have on the team? We’ll have to wait and see.
Twisted Minds PH – Prove Your Worth

Twisted Minds are taking a big risk this season by uplifting the majority of an MDL team into the MPL. ONIC x Nine Lives may be MDL champions, but we’ve seen this story before, and it didn’t end well.
Will Twisted Minds buck the negative trend of elevated amateur teams? Maybe they can with Michael “MP the King” Endino taking the lead.
