Team Falcons won’t settle for anything less than a championship, but that means that they need to step up to the occasion as well.
MPL PH S15 was a tough one for Team Falcons’ Owgwen and crew, though you wouldn’t have guessed it if you were to look at just the standings. Third place is respectable but not good enough for the calibre of players in Team Falcon. They’re always aiming for a trophy, and they simply didn’t deserve it last season.
That hit the team quite hard, especially for Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo. “Meron talagang pagkukulang kami as a team. Kasi hindi rin kami nagse-settle lang sa third place. Championship talaga yung goal namin.“
“Nung time na yun, syempre may regrets din ako. Hindi ko masyado na-guide yung team ko as a second captain.” Season 15 was a hard lesson for the Falcons squad. Together, they’ve won world championships and gold medals, but it seems those streams of successes got the better of them. Complacency was an ever-present problem, and it dragged the whole team down.
“Kailangan namin ng pressure,” said Team Falcons’ Owgwen. “Sa mga scrims namin tsaka sa gameday. Kasi last season, yung scrims namin talagang hindi maganda. Parang laging nasa negative zone kami. Yung regular season din namin hindi ganong kalakas. So unang gagawin namin sa start ng season ay maga-all in kami para maganda agad yung placement namin.”
Constant Discipline
That pressure can’t just come from rival teams, as that’s just a constant thing for a pro player. It also has to come from within Team Falcons themselves, to keep them sharp and accountable.
“Sobrang hirap magkamali sa MPL PH,” said Team Falcons’ Owgwen. “So every time magkakamali kami, as soon as possible ika-call out namin sa isa’t-isa tapos titingnan namin anong pwedeng gawin sa mga sitwasyon na yon.”
To achieve that, Owgwen believes two things need to be maintained within the team.
“Patience tsaka discipline. Kasi nung time na yon, sobrang kulang kami sa disiplina as a team inside the game. Yun talaga yung kulang namin. Sobrang konti talaga yung margin of error na pwede sa MPL. So gagawin namin yung best namin para sa season 16 konti na lang yung errors namin.”
