Anyone who’s been in the league as long as Jaypee knows the value of taking a break.
It’s been a rather slow start to the season for Team Liquid’s Jaypee as he and his team are slowly gaining back their top-tier form. The MSC 2025 champions prioritized having some time off after their international victory, causing them to fall behind in their preparations for MPL PH S16.
However, veteran Roamer Jaypee Dela Cruz feels that it’s more than just a lack of practice that’s the cause for the team’s early struggles.
“Kasi nag-break kami, hinabol namin yung mga araw na hindi kami nag-practice,” said Team Liquids’ Jaypee. “Tapos meron ding maliit na update sa game. Pero feel ko na lahat ng mga teams lumakas din.”
It is true that a lot of teams have been really stepping up this season. Few could have predicted the standings by the end of week three. Even an in-form Team Liquid would have a hard time against the current top teams in the standings.
But Jaypee doesn’t regret the break the team took before the start of the season. In fact, he thinks it’s needed to help keep the team sharp.
“Maganda yung pgre-rest sa isang team kasi legit talaga yung nangyayaring burnout,” said Team Liquid’s Jaypee. People tend to forget that Jaypee has been in the MPL for about eight years now. He’s seen the rise and fall of many teams, including his own, and knows the value of a good rest.
“Ako, go lang sa kahit anong mangyari sa amin basta meron akong family time. Feel ko kailangan talaga mag-reset kasi gusto ko talaga yung ginagawa ko.”
And Jaypee indeed plans to keep going for a long time. He’s not planning on stopping while his team is still winning, and he can hang with the best players in the world.
