Despite Grand Finals Loss, ONIC PH’s Coach YnoT Feels Good About Their MSC Chances

The season 15 championship may not have gone to them, but the coach still believes they can bring home the Mid Season Cup.

It was a tough MPL grand final between ONIC Philippines and Team Liquid PH, but despite the loss, ONIC PH’s coach Anthony “YnoT” Senedrin is keeping his head held high. It was a nail-biter of a series, with Team Liquid inching out ahead of ONIC 4-3.

Not the ideal end for ONIC but coach YnoT is still proud of both his team and even their rivals, Team Liquid. Both will be heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to play in the MLBB Mid Season Cup taking place during the Esports World Cup. To him, their fight was proof that the Philippines’ MSC chances are in good hands.

Yung first two days, yung 20 games, first time in MPL history,” reflects ONIC PH’s coach Ynot. It really was a historical moment as the top six MPL PH teams gave it their all for a chance to become champions. “I mean, the whole world has to watch out. The top four teams here sa Philippines, kayang-kaya mag-champion sa MSC. Grabe talaga yung competition dito.

That being said, an MSC title has eluded the Philippines for two years now. Last year’s MSC went to Malaysia’s Selangor Red Giants, and the year before that went to ONIC Indonesia. People have attributed this to numerous factors, but ONIC PH’s coach YnoT believes the reason is much simpler.

“I think hindi siya sa country itself. I think it all boils down to preparation talaga, making sure na covered mo ang lahat na kailangan para manalo. Going into MSC, we just need to be sure na ok-na-ok kami, sa lahat ng aspects.”

In any case, the Philippines is certainly sending strong contenders with both ONIC and Team Liquid. Some would have said ONIC were the clear favorites since they had a 13-match win streak before it was snapped in the grand finals. Having their record broken is disappointing but for ONIC’s head coach, an impressive record ultimately isn’t what’s important.

“It’s not with the numbers, it’s not with the win streak. I think it’s paano namin sine-set yung minds namin. And with the mindset that we currently have, na maging consistent lang kami, I think everything’s going to be good.”
