The M6 world champions have been hit hard and they’re going to need to prove that they can rise to the challenge.
It’s been a rough season for ONIC’s K1NGKONG and the Sonics crew as the rest of the league is proving to be more than a match for the reigning world champions. Many of the MPL PH S15 teams have leveled up, and even King “K1NGKONG” Perez sees this.
“Lahat ng mga teams naka-adapt sa tamang playstyle tulad ng magiging aggressive,” said ONIC K1NGKONG. “Halos lahat ng mga teams sa Pilipinas naka-adapt ng ganito and parang hindi kaming ganong prepared this season. Parang mas prepared pa yung ibang teams.”
Currently, ONIC are enjoying a five-match winning streak, but they were trailing with only two wins leading up to the halfway point of the season. The MPL teams are really showing that they’re not backing down to anyone, world champion or not. However, ONIC K1NGKONG sees this as a positive for the team.
“Sa totoo lang, hindi namin na expect na magiging ganito, pero parang naging pabor din sa amin yung results. Parang naging wake up call para sa amin na lahat ng mga ginagawa namin is kulang pa. Ibig sabihin na kailangan pa namin mas lalo mag-effort para lumakas ulit.”
When asked if burn out could be a factor in ONIC’s struggles, K1NGKONG says he’s never even considered it. “Hindi siya sumasali sa isip namin. As long as nakaka-practice kami everyday tapos kinakausap kami ni coach [Anthony “Ynot” Senedrin] sa tamang mindset, hindi nagiging factor yung burn out.”
Now momentum’s on ONIC’s side, especially since they were able to snap Aurora Gaming’s undefeated streak. But that could still easily change in the following weeks so if ONIC wants to keep that momentum, K1NGKONG believes the key lies in becoming unpredictable.
“Yung playstyle namin last season ay parang naging playstyle ng lahat ng teams. Parang nahihirapan kami kalabanan sarili namin. So kailangan namin maging one step ahead.”
