The MPL Indonesia champions are in dire straits but they’re not out yet.
It’s a precarious position for ONIC’s Kairi and crew as the team currently has a match record of 1-2 in the M7 Swiss Stage.
After the surprise win of Malaysia’s Yangon Galacticos over ONIC, they suffered another upset against the CIS’s Team Spirit. This puts the hometown heroes in danger of getting knocked out early, with their previous worst M-Series finish being 12th place back in M3.
Not the most comfortable of spots for star Jungler Kairi Reyosdelsol, who otherwise has had stellar M-Series showings thus far. With two second place finishes and one fourth, Kairi is no stranger to the world championship stage. And even with the threat of elimination hanging overhead, it’s still all business as usual for him.
“Wala naman pagkaiba ngayon compared sa ibang M-Series,” said ONIC’s Kairi. “Siguro yung rason bakit maraming talo ngayon ay dahil kami as a team.”
The team is certainly underperforming compared to everyone’s expectations and the disappointment from the fans has been palpable. But Kairi isn’t letting himself get distracted by all that background noise.
“Hindi naman ako napre-pressure sa opinion ng mga ibang tao. May problema lang kami na kailangan ayusin.”
And that’s the big question on everyone’s minds: can ONIC the fix in time? The team has no more room for mistakes so all their focus is now down to the next game in front of them.
“Ang first step kaliangan namin gawin is ayusin yung mga problema namin sa team ngayon,” said ONIC’s Kairi. “Kailangan namin isipin yung Swiss Stage muna. Kailangan namin makapasok sa playoffs bago namin isipin yung next step.”
