After taking a season off, the star Roamer is excited to prove himself and play once again.
Six-plus months have passed but Renejay Barcase returns to MPL PH S14 with Aurora looking energized and invigorated. The star Roamer had an exceptional run with Blacklist International back in S12 and in the M5 World Championship but decided to take a season off to reset himself.
“Meron na talaga akong plano na bago nag start yung season 12, magbe-break ako pagkatapos ng season,” said Renejay. Many questioned his decision to go on a break, considering the momentum he had built with the team. Renejay however was already feeling the toll of playing for multiple seasons and felt that it was the right thing to do at the time.
Of course, Renejay knows the risk of going on a break in a region as competitive as the Philippines. “Inisip ko din na baka mawala ako ng team dahil nagpahinga ako,” he admits. But he has found a place in Aurora and feels that his skills are no worse for wear.
“Dun pa rin ako sa point na nagi-improve pa ako,” said Renejay. “Yung season 12, hindi pa yun yung ‘peak’ Renejay. Para sakin kulang pa rin yon so hopefully this season mabigay ko yung mas magandang laro.”
As for how Renejay wound up with Aurora for MPL PH S14, his answer was quite simple. “Nag Aurora na din ako kasi nandun yung mga gusto ko magka-team.”
Starting With a Clean Slate
Ever since Aurora revealed their line-up, many have been saying that we have a potential superteam entering the MPL. Renejay has a more practical outlook on those claims. “Kung titingnan mo yung mga individual players namin, alam naman natin na nag-shine sila sa mga former teams nila. As for me, di pa ako sure,” said Renejay with a smile.
Still, there’s a lot of expectations on them, even though they’re technically a new team entering the MPL. Renejay, however, says it how it is. “Di naman namin nakikitang superteam kami. Kase kahit may achievements kami as individual players, pumasok kami sa Aurora as a team with no achievements. Yun yung mindset namin.”
