It’s another big year ahead for us in esports.
A new year means a fresh calendar of events for esports in 2025 and at a glance, there’s really a lot to look forward to this year. From brand new events to major international competitions, 2025 is looking like a promising year for esports.
We’ve managed to narrow everything down to five big events that we’re sure will be the highlights of esports in 2025.
Masters Bangkok – Valorant
Valorant is starting 2025 early with the first Masters event of the year happening this February. This one is particularly exciting as it’ll be the first Masters event to be held in the SEA region. With EDward Gaming taking Champions 2024, many are eager to see if the once-Chinese underdogs can maintain their international success.
First Stand – League of Legends
Not long after however is the biggest shakeup in the League of Legends esports scene in over 10 years.
First Stand, happening this March, is the first international tournament in the League of Legends competitive season. It’s the first time a new official international event has been added since the founding of League esports and it’s the first time they’re adopting the new Fearless drafting format.
That’s a staggering amount of firsts so there’s no doubt that this’ll be a historical moment for esports in 2025.
Evo 2025
This one’s cheating a little as there’s not just one Evo event this year but three. The first is happening in Japan this May with the remaining two taking place in Las Vegas and France later in the year.
Evo is the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, breaking records when they were just in the USA, and it looks like they’re truly committed to becoming a worldwide event. We can’t wait to see how everything goes down in all three tournaments.
Esports World Cup
Speaking of big events, the Esports World Cup is set to return later this June. This esports phenomenon promises to be just as large and ambitious as the last with major games such as MLBB, Counter-Strike, and PUBG making a return appearance. And with the overall number of games increasing from 22 to 25, we can expect a bigger total prize pool as well.
2025 SEA Games
Last but not least is the biggest sporting event of the year for Southeast Asia taking place this December. Esports is returning for the 33rd SEA Games and MLBB is once again included in the lineup. As the Philippines are the three-peat SEA Games gold medalists in MLBB, it’s going to be extra hype to see if we can defend our title.
