Who Will Make It Out of the Capcom Cup X LCQ?

By Ramon Domingo - February 14, 2024
Only one will get the final spot to contend for that 1 million dollar grand prize.

Capcom Cup X is gearing up to be one of the most exciting fighting game tournaments of the year but before we get there we have the LCQ. The Last Chance Qualifiers is exactly as it sounds; an all-or-nothing tournament where the winner gets the very last spot at Capcom Cup.

It starts on Friday, February 16 PST, and with over 300 registered players the battle is going to be fierce. From unknown hopefuls to veterans who were denied their spots, we’ve got a wide field of contenders. Here are just a few names who could earn their spot in Capcom Cup.

It’s hard to believe that this Street Fighter legend is down in the LCQ and fighting for survival. The man has been busy, joining both online and offline events to try and qualify but has always fallen short. That’s not a knock on his skill but a testament to how competitive the road to Capcom Cup has been.

Daigo is not alone in this regard but the one thing he has is his veteran experience. Will it be enough to win him the LCQ is the question.

After coming out of nowhere and winning last year’s LCQ undefeated, Zhen is looking to repeat history. The 20-year-old prodigy had a breakout performance in Capcom Cup IX and seamlessly transitioned into Street Fighter 6. Now we’ll have to see if he’s capable of making lightning strike twice.

While he may be considered to be the strongest Street Fighter 5 player in the world, iDom has had a rough road in Street Fighter 6. Without having a character similar to either Laura or Poison, his two mains in SF5, iDom’s success has been limited. His skill still remains sharp, however, making him a real threat in the Capcom Cup X LCQ.

Kakeru has been a rising star ever since his impressive run at Evo 2023. His unbelievable win at the Gamers8 SF6 Invitational also made him the undisputed best JP player in the world. It’s even crazier that he’s fighting for his life at the LCQ. He’s arguably the strongest player in the LCQ and one of the favorites to take it all.

Another prominent SF5 player trying to find his footing in SF6 is Benjamin “Problem X” Simon. Problem X has been in a bit of a character crisis as he’s struggled to find a main that he’s comfortable with. Still, he has the legacy and skill of a champion and he looks like he’s slowly getting back in form. Is it enough for him to win the LCQ and make it to Capcom Cup X? We’ll have to wait and see.

This Fil-Am community favorite may not be as well known as some of the other names on this list but he has definitely been putting in the same amount of effort. Frequenting many online qualifiers throughout 2023, Filipinoman has slowly but surely improved with every tournament he entered. The LCQ is a true test of his skill and to see if he’s grown enough to take down some of the best SF6 players in the world.
