The Design Details Behind The Philippine Men’s National Football Team’s 2025 Kits

By Annika Caniza - December 04, 2024

Inspired by Filipino identity, the PMNFT is excited to represent the flag wearing their new home and away kits.

As the Philippine Men’s National Football Team (PMNFT) braces themselves for the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup, a major test for the team’s new chapter under recently appointed head coach Albert Capellas, the players will have an extra reminder of who they are playing for, thanks to their new home and away kits designed by PUMA.

The new 2025 kits were finally unveiled for all to see on December 3, Tuesday, at a launch party at Bootcamp BGC that brought the team, players, and the Philippine football community together to celebrate a new chapter of the team’s history.

Of course, the players already had an early look at the kits, and before they were finally revealed to the public, PMNFT center-back Amani Aguinaldo expressed his excitement for the new designs.

“When I saw the kits, I first saw the kits in photos that were being worn by my teammates. And the first thought that came to mind was like, ‘They don’t normally look this good, you know,'” Amani said in jest.

“So the kits definitely made them look better. I like the kits. The blue one’s got that retro feel to it, and the white one looks really cool, looks really nice. And I just can’t wait to be able to wear one of them, and can’t wait to represent the country in them.”

When the curtains of Bootcamp BGC were finally dropped, the football community in attendance finally got to see the kits themselves: a bright blue home kit with a vibrant red accent, and a clean white away kit that features an intricate blue pattern.

Let’s take a closer look at the details and inspirations behind these designs.

Retro feel

If the 2025 home kit of the PMNFT looks a little familiar to you, that’s because, as Amani Aguinaldo said himself, it does have a “retro feel” to it.

At the unveiling event, Philippine Football Federation National Teams Director Freddy Gonzalez explained that the blue jersey pays homage to the jerseys the national team wore to the 1998 Tiger Cup, which was the very kit that he wore during his own debut on the national team, and this played a part in inspiring its nostalgic look.

The PMNFT 2025 Home Kit is inspired by the Philippine sunrise.

But apart from drawing flashbacks to the 90s and early 2000s era of Philippine football, PUMA’s design for the 2025 home kit was also inspired by the colors of the Philippine sunrise. The dual blue tones, the lighter base color and the darker accents on the collar and sides of the jersey, symbolize the sky and the sea, while the red accent represents the morning sun — a figure of hope and strength.

Amihan

While the home kit is more vibrant in color, the new 2025 away kit has a cleaner and more subtle look.

With an all-white ensemble, the devil lies in the details. This particular design is inspired by Amihan, a term for the Philippines’ northeast winds. The blue patterns seen on the away kit depict the country’s seasonal elements, rain and wind, and are meant to represent the Filipino’s resilience, courage, and drive to rise above challenges.

On top of these inspirational elements that are featured on PUMA’s kits for the Philippine Men’s National Football Team, these jerseys are also crafted with high-performance designs. Using PUMA’s CLOUDSPUN fabric, the kits feel extra soft, which will keep the players comfortable throughout an entire match. And another plus — they were also made with 95% recycled materials.

Both the PMNFT’s home and away kits are laced with deep meaning that is sure to be a heartfelt source of motivation for the players, who will be debuting these kits in the upcoming ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup later this month.
