Lauren Hoffman will have one more chance to advance in the Paris Olympics women’s 400m hurdles.
Filipina hurdler Lauren Hoffman will head to the repechage of the Paris Olympics women’s 400m hurdles after falling short in Round 1 at the Stade de France on Sunday.
Hoffman clocked in 57.84 seconds, good for 6th in heat 4, and 37th overall. A top-three finish in her heat, however, would’ve guaranteed an early semifinal ticket.
Hoffman struggled right off the bat, which prevented her from getting a good time in. Now headed to the repechage, Hoffman has a final shot to book a semis berth this Monday, August 4 as she competes in heat 3.
The United States’ Anna Cockrell topped heat 4 with her time of 53.91 seconds, followed by the United Kingdom’s Lina Nielsen (54.65), and Jamaica’s Janieve Russell (54.67).
The Netherlands’ Femke Bol led in the overall rankings with her time of 53.38 seconds. She was followed by the American pairing of Jasmine Jones (53.60.594), and Tokyo gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (53.60.595).
Alongside John Cabang, Lauren Hoffman is one of the two Filipino hurdlers participating in the Paris Olympics. Cabang also heads to the repechage after placing 32nd overall during the men’s 110m hurdles Round 1 an hour before Hoffman’s debut.
At the same time, Lauren Hoffman is also carrying the Philippine athletics flag with pole vault star EJ Obiena who booked his finals ticket last Saturday.
In the repechage, Lauren Hoffman will need to be on her best form in order to book a wildcard semifinal ticket. Will she regain her footing?
