Days removed from an accidental collision with Shevana Laput, Angel Canino quickly erased any doubts surrounding her readiness against the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Angel Canino opted to let her play do the talking as she returned to action following an accidental collision with teammate Shevana Laput over the weekend against the UST Golden Tigresses.
Four days since the unfortunate incident, Canino was quick to dispel any doubts regarding her condition, turning in an all-around performance of 16 points on 47-percent efficiency (16-of-34) along with seven excellent digs and six excellent receptions against the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Wednesday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Canino, who was rushed to the hospital immediately after the collision, was also part of DLSU’s starting six against their Katipunan-based rivals.
“I’m doing really good and I’m better na po. Binigyan din naman ako ng go signal, and nagpahinga lang talaga ako, kung anong kailangan na protocol, sinunod ko lang and ‘yun lang po,” Canino replied when asked about her current condition.

Canino on Wednesday linked up with Laput to power the Archers’ commanding 25-21, 25-17, 25-20 sweep over the Eagles, which allowed them to tighten their hold on a twice-to-beat advantage with a 7-3 record late into the Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
The captain’s return was also met with solid distribution from rookie Mikole Reyes, who activated middle blockers Amie Provido (9 points) and Lilay del Castillo (5 points) as she finished with 19 excellent sets in the 75-minute affair.
Laput added 14 points on 12 kills as the Lady Spikers proved to be too much once more against their Katipunan-based rivals.
“Gaya nga nung sabi nila, kung magiging effective ‘yung lahat at makikita na nakakapatay ‘yung lahat, mas lalong nakakalito for other teams na bantayan kami, so I think that’s a positive note din sa team namin na kaya naming ipagpatuloy-tuloy na,” Canino said on the Lady Spikers’ performance.
“But at the same time, we’re not looking at the attacks lang sa game, so sa lahat ng aspeto, need talaga i-improve ‘yun, so paonti-onti, sa mga training namin, nakukuha naman kahit pa onti–onti.”
Canino and DLSU will look to continue their winning form this Sunday, April 5, as they face the winless UE Lady Warriors also at the Cubao-based venue.
