Savi Davison Has Added Motivation In Playoff Push With PLDT

By RJ Ballecer - March 05, 2025

Savi Davison is drawing added motivation from a recent setback as she aims for a PVL title with the PLDT High Speed Hitters.

Since returning to the Taraflex, Savi Davison has been on a mission with the PLDT High Speed Hitters throughout the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, firmly re-establishing herself as one of the league’s best outside hitters with consistent high-scoring performances.

Davison emerged as the conference’s top scorer in the preliminary rounds, finishing with 262 points (23.8 points per game) built on 236 spikes, 25 kills, a block, and an impressive 39.14 percent spiking efficiency.

And on Tuesday, the Fil-Canadian ace continued her high-scoring exploits, tying her career-high 34 points in the High Speed Hitters’ 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-24 qualifying round victory against the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles.

For the 26-year-old, her consistency is a product of her desire to win an elusive PVL title with the High Speed Hitters.

“I want a championship, I want to be in that really tough spot at the end of the season, I guess this is just preparing for that. So hopefully we just keep performing and we get there, and when the time comes, we show up,” she said post-game.

But along with her championship aspirations, Davison is also drawing motivation from her one-conference absence during the 2024 Reinforced Conference. A knee cleanup procedure led the outside hitter to miss the import-laden tourney, and could only cheer from the PLDT bench amid her recovery period.

While she remained a constant fixture on the team’s bench, being unable to contribute on the court was simply heartbreaking for Davison at the time.

“It was actually a lot harder when I wasn’t playing in the summer when they got into the semifinals and lost to Cignal for the bronze, or for third,” she told The GAME. “Not being able to produce in that moment, or being able to help in that capacity, I think it was just really hard for me and it just made me hungrier.”

Now that she’s back to her high-scoring ways, Davison vows to leave it all on the court as she and the High Speed Hitters go deeper into the postseason.

“Yeah, I think the injury set me back a little bit where like I wasn’t used to being in a spot where I wasn’t able to contribute. So I think that moment just made me more grateful for all the legs, the knees, and the ankles to be okay,” the Fil-Candaian ace reflected.

However, things won’t be any easier for Savi Davison and PLDT, as they are set to face Sisi Rondina and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in the conference quarterfinals starting this March 15.

And as early as now, she and the team have made it a point to have a heightened sense of urgency as postseason action begins to heat up in the All-Filipino wars.

“I think in the playoff round, I know it’s not a do-or-die, win or go home type of thing, but it eventually will be. So we’re kind of setting the stage and we’re making sure that the atmosphere will be the same regardless is really our top priority,” Davison said.

“But aside from that, everyone’s really going to play a bit harder, everyone’s going to play a little bit better, so it’s kind of making sure that we control our side of the net.”
