Savi Davison Prioritizes Much-Needed Rest After Extended Campaign With PLDT

By RJ Ballecer - April 25, 2025

Outside hitter Savi Davison will head back to Canada for some rest and relaxation following a hectic six-month stretch of volleyball.

A flight back to Canada is all that is on Savi Davison’s mind after the PLDT High Speed Hitters made their exit from the AVC Champions League on Thursday.

Davison and the rest of PLDT will now head into their offseason break after falling to Kazakhstan’s VC Zhetysu to cap off a six-month stretch that started way back in November with the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.

As she goes back to Canada, Davison is set to play in semi-professional tournaments with the Canadian national team, along with spending some much-anticipated time with her family.

“I’ll actually go home for a little bit, and when I’m home I actually play in semi-pro tournaments with the girls from Team Canada, so I’m continuously competing throughout the summer — hopefully safely — but it’s not so much of a break for me, and just maintenance,” Davison shared after PLDT’s quarterfinals loss to VC Zhetysu on Thursday.

“Hopefully, I can get better back home, with the coaches back home, as I bring some lessons that I’ve learned back here. But just rest as well, and time with family since I didn’t get to go home for Christmas.”

Due to her lingering desire to get a proper offseason, Davison was also quick to beg off from the yet-to-be announced Alas Pilipinas tryouts, despite being a high-profile inclusion in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation’s (PNVF) 33-woman national team wishlist released last March.

“Maybe in a little bit, when December comes. But right now, it’s just really not my priority, since we’re coming off a really long conference plus the AVC, so I’m going to get as far away from volleyball as I can for the next month and then maybe I can dabble in the [Alas invite],” she said.

Still, Davison is already looking forward to the next PVL conference, knowing that a much tougher playing field awaits, including their fellow Champions League bets in the Creamline Cool Smashers and newly-minted champs Petro Gazz Angels.

PLDT is also coming off a solid Champions League run, where they sent a statement by pushing powerhouse Nakhon Ratchasima to five sets in the preliminary round, and showing some fight against the towering VC Zhetysu in the knockout quarterfinals.

Not to mention, the High Speed Hitters also flaunted their depth in the regional meet, with Kianna Dy making significant strides in her recovery from a knee injury, and setter Kim Fajardo getting extended minutes after a cartilage cleanup limited her in the All-Filipino Conference.

“It’s far from now, so hopefully as a team we grow together with them on the court, but I’m just excited for the next PVL because everyone gets better, and it’s not just us. So I hope the Philippine teams take lessons from this tournament into our homecourt every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and I just hope that we compete further from here.”
