UAAP Season 86 Boys' Basketball Champions Adamson Baby Falcons

The Last Time the Adamson Baby Falcons Won a UAAP Crown…

It’s been 31 years since the Adamson Baby Falcons were UAAP boys’ basketball champs. What was the world like back then?

The Adamson Baby Falcons disposed of the National University Nazareth School Bullpups, 90-73, on Sunday, February 11, to capture their first UAAP boys’ basketball crown in 31 years. Then coached by player agent Charlie Dy, the Baby Falcons actually won six straight titles from 1988 to 1993 before going titleless until Sunday.

It’s been quite the long wait for the school. In fact, the last time Adamson won a UAAP boys’ basketball title…

…Fidel V. Ramos was 15 months into his presidency.

…the exchange rate was around 27 pesos to one US dollar.

…Michael Jordan was about to announce his (first) retirement.

…Shaquille O’Neal had been named Rookie of the Year a few months earlier.

…Mariah Carey was at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with “Dreamlover.”

Jurassic Park was the no. 1 movie in the Philippines (and the world).

…The UST Growling Tigers had just completed a 14-0 sweep of the seniors’ division to win their first title in 25 years.

…Taylor Swift was four years old.

…Stephen Curry was five.

…minimum wage in the Philippines was around 120 pesos a day.

…a bottle of San Miguel Pale Pilsen retailed for around 10-15 pesos.

…only half of Filipino families had a landline.

…QC to Makati took only 30 minutes on a bad day.

…Brownouts were a daily occurrence.

E.A.T. Bulaga! was still on ABS-CBN and its hosts included Aiza Seguerra, Aiko Melendez, and Christine Jacob.
