In case you’ve been missing out, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team (AKA the Filipinas) is now four-for-four in the AFF Women’s Championship. And with still one more match to go in the group stage, the Filipinas are already locked in for the semifinals.
Making proud on home-soil
The Filipinas kept their winning streak in the tournament with their win against Indonesia on Sunday. As their fourth win in the group stages, they secured their semis slot. Now, they wait to hear which team they will be up against in the semifinals on July 15.
This far into the tournament, the edge of playing on home-soil seems to be working out for the Filipinas. Three out of four of their wins have been by large margins:
- 7-0 win against Singapore
- 4-0 win against Malaysia
- 4-1 win against Indonesia
With one more matchup before the semis happening tonight against Thailand, the Filipinas will be looking to close out their group stage strong.
Group stage MVP
Sarina Bolden has definitely been the key player for the Filipinas in their dominant performances in the group stage. She has scored five goals in the tournament already, three of which she scored in their recent win against Indonesia.
The Filipinas were down 0-1 at halftime, but in the span of 22 minutes, they came back with four goals, Bolden with the hat trick.
She was named Women of the Match with her three goals in the match.
She scores big in front of big crowds at home.
