Being a full-time athlete isn’t easy. It often requires long days, tiring training sessions, exhaustion, and a whole lot of discipline. But when you’re putting in the world alongside someone who understands the same kind of hustle, it can make the journey even a little bit easier. That’s why we think athlete couples are so special.
This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the power of two. Here are five Filipino athlete couples who are taking on the professional athlete journey together.
Jema Galanza & Ella De Jesus
Girls who play together stay together? It definitely seems like it when we look at Jema Galanza and Ella De Jesus. Both talented volleyball players who play for one of the top volleyball teams in the Philippines, the Creamline Cool Smashers, Jema and Ella are the definition of a Filipino athlete power couple. Championships surely have a little extra meaning when you get to share it with someone special on the court.
Harold Alarcon & Roma Doromal
There’s no doubt that the Katipunan rivalry in UAAP circles can get very heated. But, this doesn’t seem to be the case at all for UP Fighting Maroon Harold Alarcon and Ateneo Blue Eagle, Roma Doromal. Both ruling their respective courts — Harold on the basketball court and Roma on the volleyball court — there’s no rivalry between these two rising stars.
Aby Maraño & Kamille Cal
Another pair of volleyball players that have captured the hearts of Filipino fans are former national team captain Aby Maraño and Nxled Chameleons rising star Kamille Cal. These two have been together for a while now, and although they play for rival teams in the Premier Volleyball League, there’s no doubting their support for one another. In fact, when Kamille signed with Nxled last year, she had nothing but supportive sentiments to share.
Sara Eggesvik & Simen Lyngbo
Lately, football has been the source of a lot of Filipino pride, as far as Philippine sports go, which makes Sara Eggesvik and Simen Lyngbo an even sweeter and more lovable pairing. Both Filipino-Norwegian football players who represent the national teams — the Azkals and the Filipinas — these two booters can revel in the same national pride that comes with their team’s performances on the pitch.
Shaun Ildefonso & Camille Clarin
Basketball still remains the Philippines’ favorite sport, which is why it’s no wonder that Shaun Ildefonso and Camille Clarin are one of the Filipino athlete couples that basketball fans can’t stop talking about. Shaun has solidified his reputation as a UAAP star and is on the rise as a pro, while Camille is a Southeast Asian Games gold medalist. These ballers are definitely an athlete couple worth fawning over, and we love seeing them celebrate each other’s achievements.
