After struggling early in the tournament, Carlos Yulo managed to finish the Cottbus World Cup on a high note with a bronze for parallel bars.
Filipino Olympian gymnast Carlos Yulo found his way to a podium finish at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Cottbus, Germany after an impressive performance in parallel bars on Sunday, February 26.
Yulo earned 15.166 points in parallel bars to capture the bronze medal of the event. The Filipino finished behind Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun, who scored 15.266 to win gold, and Italy’s Matteo Levantesi who scored 15.266 for silver.
Yulo struggled to find his stride in the tournament, unable to reach the final of the floor exercise — an event in which the Filipino has reached the podium in the last three world championships — after only reaching a 20th-place finish.
In addition, Yulo also finished 14th in vault and 13th in rings, also unable to reach the finals for these events. With this, his bronze-medal performance in parallel bars allowed Yulo to end his Cottbus World Cup campaign on a high note.
Now, as the Olympian returns back home with a new medal to add to his collection, he will be focusing on the next three editions of the World Cup, with the next one in Doha, taking place from March 2 to 5.
