Cash, Housing, More: The Rewards Carlos Yulo Will Enjoy For His Olympic Golds

By RJ Ballecer - August 04, 2024
As Carlos Yulo makes history, he will have quite the rewards waiting for him in the Philippines.

Carlos Yulo has done it for the Philippines not once, but twice.

The Filipino gymnast won two Olympic gold medals after flawless showings in the Paris 2024 men’s floor exercise and vault finals. Now a history-maker, here are the rewards what he will be receiving after this huge triumph.

Cash

Thanks to Republic Act 10699, Carlos Yulo will receive P10 million for winning an Olympic gold medal. On top of this, he will also be awarded an Olympic gold medal of valor from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). Carlos will likely get P20 million from the national government after his double gold.

Olympic silver medalists also receive P5 million, while bronze medalists are given P2 million thanks to the same legislation.

President Bongbong Marcos Jr. also rewarded Yulo another P20 million during Team Philippines’ homecoming last August 13.

Carlos will also receive P6 million from the House of Representatives, as they committed to reward P3 million to each Olympic gold medalist. He also gets an additional P8 million thanks to “personal contributions” from the Lower House.

Manila’s local government unit (LGU) will likewise give Carlos P2 million, or P1 million for each gold medal. They have also declared August 4 as Carlos Yulo Day accordi

Private companies have also pledged millions for Carlos. After winning his second gold, Bounty Fresh Group Holdings Inc. and Chooks-to-Go announced a P3 million reward for Carlos.

Property developer Megaworld also added a P3 million cash bonus, on top of upgrading their promised condominium unit for him.

As their brand ambassador, Carlos is set to receive another P5 million from sports betting platform ArenaPlus.

“Yulo’s hard work and dedication resulted in the historic win of two gold medals in men’s artistic gymnastics in the men’s floor and men’s vault exercises. The victory makes him only the second ever Filipino Olympic gold medalist, and the most awarded one in history,” part of their statement read.

According to reports, businessman and former politician Chavit Singson has already pledged P5 million to the star gymnast.

Housing

Carlos Yulo will now get a fully furnished three-bedroom unit from Megaworld valued at P32 million, which will come with two balconies, a maid’s room, and a parking slot. Like his initial reward, Carlos’ condominium unit will be located in McKinley Hill, Taguig City.

Earlier, the property developer promised to reward each Filipino gold medalist “a fully-furnished two bedroom residential condominium unit valued at P24 million” located in the development area.

“Since this is a very significant milestone in the history of Philippine sports to have two gold Olympic medals during our 100th year participation as a country in the Olympics, which also coincides with our company’s 35th anniversary this year, we are boosting our reward for Carlos Yulo now totaling P35 million. He truly deserves this and we will always be proud of him for taking Filipino excellence to the next level,” Megaworld president Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso said in a statement.

Last April, Philippine Olympic Committee head Bambol Tolentino also pledged to award housing and more to potential gold medalists. At the time, discussions were already underway with POC secretary-general Wharton Chan for potential locations.

Nagawa ko noong Tokyo personally, we gave four house and lots. So nagawa ko noon, bat ‘di ko magagawa ngayon? Hindi ko cinoconfirm pero bat ‘di ko magagawa?” Tolentino said last April, referring to the Tagaytay-based properties awarded to Tokyo medalists Hidilyn Diaz, Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial.

Century Properties Group awarded Carlos a house and lot at its PHirst Editions Batulao project in Nasugbu, Batangas. The single attached home, coincidentally named Charles – translating to Carlos in Spanish – is valued at Php6.0 million.

“We at PHirst celebrate Yulo’s triumph. His story represents the journey of every Filipino toward their dreams. We are honored to offer Carlos a ‘home of many firsts’ and wish him continued success as he pursues his dreams and creates more memorable moments both on a professional and personal level,” remarked Ricky M. Celis, President of PHirst Park Homes, Inc. and Century PHirst Corporation in a press release.

What else?

Carlos Yulo’s rewards also go beyond cash and housing. Vikings, a well-known buffet chain, has committed to give Yulo a lifetime of free buffets, with other branches already posting the confirmation.

Likewise, gastropub Tipsy Pig and select branches of inasal restaurant JT’s Manukan have offered lifetime free meals and drinks to Carlos. He will also enjoy a lifetime of free double flavor boxes from BOK Korean Fried Chicken. Popular fast food chain Mang Inasal has also committed to a lifetime of their PM2 or pecho meal for the star gymnast.

Similar offers include bacsilog from BastaMura Bacsilog in San Andres Bukid, ramen from Hagemu Sushi and Ramen Bar in Calasiao, Pangasinan, and pizza from Pizza Hut.

Meanwhile, MexiKanto Food Truck will offer free tacos to Carlos with a twist. According to them, anyone named Carlos, Edriel, or even Yulo will get a free taco upon a purchase of their regular-priced products!

If Carlos has a sweet tooth, then he’ll have a lifetime supply of cookies from Cookies By The Bucket following his initial gold. Alternatively, he can avail lifetime frozen treats from Rita’s Italian Ice, which has branches nationwide.

Toledo Medical Comapnies Inc. (ToledoMed), a top cosmetics clinic, extended a “grand” P15 million contract for Carlos to become their newest ambassador.

Carlos can also claim P100,000 worth of free furniture from Apollo Home Depot in Cagayan de Oro, while he has lifetime free engineering design from Nexa Engineering in Quezon City.

A free franchise also awaits Carlos and his coach Aldrin Castañeda from Cebu’s Don Macchiatos. Yulo gets two franchises in Don Macchiatos and its sister brand Don Lemon, while Castañeda gets the latter.

OPM band Moonstar 88 also committed to a free wedding performance for the two-time Olympic gold medalist.

“Pinoygastro” Dr. Virgil Lo has likewise pledged lifetime free gastro consults and colonoscopy that will extend to “indigent patients” of Carlos’ chosing.

Carlos will now have a new Land Cruiser Prado, courtesy of Toyota Motors Philippines. Private ambulance company Lifeline 16911 has also given him a lifetime membership.

These rewards are well-deserved, especially for an athlete like Caloy, who has dedicated his life for this very moment.
