The Giants Stand Tall: SRG Are The MSC 2024 Champions

By Ramon Domingo - July 15, 2024
It’s the dawn of a new era in MLBB esports and Malaysia sits at the top.

A new star rises in MLBB esports as Malaysia’s Selangor Red Giants (SRG) are the MSC 2024 champions. The Malaysian top seed proved that they’re not underdogs as they took down the current world champions, the Philippines’ Falcons AP.Bren, in a full seven-game slobber-knocker to take the Mid Season Cup trophy.

While the squad is only a year old, SRG have truly rocketed themselves to the top of MLBB esports. Made as the esports division of the Selangor Football Club in Malaysia, SRG started slow in its first few months. It wasn’t until the inclusion of Filipino coach Michael “Arcadia” Bocado that the team began distinguishing themselves as a real contender in the Malaysian region.

Two more Pinoy imports, Mark “Kramm” Rusiana and John “Innocent” Banal, joined the team this year. Then, with the inclusion of star Malaysian Mid Laner Hazziq “Stormie” Rizwan, SRG’s ‘superteam’ was assembled.

SRG would demolish the competition in MPL Malaysia, losing zero games in the regular season, and crowning themselves as the best team in the region. Their winning ways would follow them to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as they placed at the top of their group in the group stage.

They met their first big challenge against Turkey’s Fire Flux Esports at the quarterfinals, taking the match 3-2. They would sweep Singapore’s NIP Flash in the semis before facing the finals boss that is Falcons AP.Bren in the grand final.

In the end, the Giants were a force to be reckoned with. The series looked like two world-class teams battling for supremacy, truly worthy of being a grand final. With a hard-fought but deserved 4-3 victory, SRG have made their mark as the MSC 2024 champions.

A New Chapter for MLBB Esports

MSC 2024 was truly an event to be remembered and it’s not just because SRG are the champions. Everyone already knows that this is the very first MLBB tournament to have a million-dollar prize pool and be held outside of Southeast Asia.

This was also the event where Indonesia, the second-best region in the world, bombed out in the group stage. A shocking turn of events considering that they were the previous MSC champions.

Indonesia’s fall paved the way for Malaysia’s rise however as both their teams made it to the playoffs. For SRG in particular, they’ve remained undefeated for a total of 108 days, truly remarkable for the reigning champions.

This is also Malaysia’s first-ever international trophy, and with the M6 World Championship being held in Kuala Lumpur later this year, MLBB fans are speculating if this is finally Malaysia’s time to shine.
