Coach YnoT saw they had all the pieces and now it’s all coming up ONIC.
ONIC PH sits at the top of the board at the end of the first half of the MPL PH S13 and coach Anthony “YnoT” Senedrin couldn’t be more proud of his team. After so many lackluster finishes, it’s looking like it’s ONIC time once again.
Many were interested in the potential of the team after they acquired players like Grant “Kelra” Pillas and King “K1NGKONG” Perez. Strong players in their own right, but never had the results to show for it. Now, they’ve dethroned AP.Bren, the current MPL champions, and are on a seven-game winning streak. ONIC PH has broken all expectations but coach YnoT believes that there’s still more that can be done.
“Yun yung what’s very interesting para sa amin,” said the coach. “Ang dami pa rin naming gusto i-try, there are things we’re still working out. The team understands that kaya namin mag-perform pero there’s still things that we’re lacking na trina-trabaho namin.”
This drive to improve is what’s keeping ONIC at the top and they don’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. “We’re excited now pero mas-excited kami sa [next week] kasi meron kaming gusto i-test and discuss.”
Creating a Winning Mindset
Still, you don’t become a top contender just out of the blue, especially when your superteam has players who’ve finished at the bottom of the barrel for multiple seasons. The key to this transformation is the team’s mindset and it’s something coach YnoT takes very seriously.
“Everyday is a process talaga,” said the coach. “Syempre, may araw na nananalo ka, or medyao tagilid sa scrims, so hindi naman siya everyday all jolly kami. There are days na dine-dedicate ko for mindset, where I remind them our goals as a team and syempre yung mga personal goals nila. That’s what we’re trying to mold here, yung maturity level ng mga players.”
And with that winning mindset installed into the team, coach YnoT believes that ONIC PH can go very far. “Actually, mataas ang confidence ko na kaya namin kunin yung buong taon,” he says with absolute certainty in his team.
